Recently, the Ministry of Education published a list of the top 50 colleges and universities in patent filings, grant and valid patents in 2009.
According to the list, Zhejiang University ranked the 1st in patent applications accounting for 1780; the second is Tsinghua University with 1435; Other universities are Harbin Institute of Technology, 991; Shanghai Jiao Tong Universtty, 982; Beihang University, 955; Southeast University, 715; Tianjin University 653; South China University of Technology, 600; Shanghai University, 565;and Fudan University, 515.
With regard to valid patents, Tsinghua University ranked the first with 2722, followed by Zhejiang University, 2419; Shanghai Jiao Tong Universtty, 2313; Harbin Institute of Technology, 906; Xi’an Jiao Tong University, 821; Beihang University, 776; South China University of Technology, 732; Southeast University, 729; Fudan University, 656 and Tianjin University, 623.
