The Trademark Office of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC) recently released a figure that 51,044 cases related to trademark were investigated, a decrease of 9.87%, as compared to the same period of the previous year.
According to the Trademark Office, the year of 2009 witnessed 830,500 applications for trademark registrations, up 18.96% in spite of the global crisis. China ranked No1 in terms of the trademark applications, examination and registrations.
It is also learned that China will build a long term mechanism to prevent the infringement and a coordination mechanism to investigate trademark cases across the country. Efforts will be strengthened in protecting the well-known trademarks and famous trademarks. The trademark office under SAIC will take full advantage of the parallel mechanism between judicial and administrative protection, maintain its close connection with the public security departments, Customs, copyright administrations and patent administration agency to collaborate and better improve the trademark enforcement.
Besides, China will build the overseas safeguarding mechanism for trademarks. For this purpose, the Trademark Office will communicate and consult other governmental agencies such as Department of Commerce, so that a speed and communicative mechanism can be established with the competent administrative or judicial authorities in other countries or regions. Therefore, protection of Chinese trademarks can be reinforced in other countries or regions.
