It is learnt from Guangdong Provincial Higher People's Court that, a special committee on the theory of intellectual property (IP) trials was formerly established, targeting at the study and research of the theories relating to the IP trials.
The establishment of the committee not only offers a platform of research and communication among the IP judges, but can also integrates the research resources and promote the study and research of IP trials and related theories.
The statistics show that since 2004, Guangdong province has been among the top list for the number of IP cases received at the first instance. In 2009, the IP cases received in Guangdong account for more than 1/5 of all the cases received across the country. Due to the expansion of the areas for IP protection, there have been some new types and complicated cases. The cases are now expanded to areas such as online copyright issue, new plant varieties, domain names, anti-monopoly, franchising, identification of well-known trademark, etc. Originally, there were only cases relating to copyright, patent and trademark.
